Earning the ENERGY STAR means products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. By choosing ENERGY STAR certified heating and cooling equipment and taking steps to optimize its performance, you can enhance the comfort of your home while saving energy. Geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) are among the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling technologies currently available, because they use the earth's natural heat to provide heating, cooling, and often, water heating.
ENERGY STAR qualified geothermal heat pumps have several advantages. They are over 45% more energy efficient than standard options, and now include water-to-water GHPs. These provide space conditioning and/or domestice water heating using indoor refrigerant-to-water heat exchangers.
Through December 31, 2016 homeowners who install ENERGY STAR qualified geothermal heat pumps are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit. Learn More.
Federal HVAC Credit (25C) offers a tax credit of up to $300 for the solar-ready heat pump or air conditioner that’s at the heart of the SunSource system. The federal solar credit (25D) equals 30% of the cost—with no upper limit—of the SunSource solar modules, including installation costs. It also covers 9% of the total cost of the solar-ready products. By installing a solar-ready outdoor unit (air conditioner or heat pump) and attaching at least one solar module, the solar-ready outdoor unit will qualify for both the solar and HVAC tax credits.
You may be eligible for even more solar tax credits and incentives from your state and local governments, and local utility companies also have similar offerings. You can also learn more about federal options in the “Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency” section at www.energystar.gov, or learn about rebates and credits available in your area by checking with your local utility company or visiting dsireusa.org.
